Research and Creativity Symposium goes online

Virtual event features keynote address from environmental justice expert

糖心原创 will host its annual Undergraduate Research and Creativity Symposium on Thursday, April 22. The virtual event features student presentations, awards and a keynote address from Fatemeh Shafiei, Ph.D.

Shafiei鈥檚 keynote address titled 鈥淭he Nexus Between the Toxic Legacy of Environmentall Racism and the Pandemic鈥 begins at 12:30 p.m. The virtual discussion is free and open to the public via Zoom. Register at .

An associate professor and chair of the department of political science at Spelman College, Shafiei has worked for years to support environmental justice, education and research. She served as a member of the U.S. Enviornmental Protection Agency鈥檚 National Environmental Justice Advisory Council as well as an environmental justice consultant for the Centers for Diseas Control and Prevention.

Shafiei also serves as director of the environmental studies program and co-chair of the Sustainable Spelman Committee. Shalfiei is an expert and leader in advancing integration of sustainability into college, university, high school and middle school curricula for more than two decades.
