Brinkley to Deliver 15th Annual Culver Lecture

Douglas Brinkley,聽presidential historian and聽commentator,聽will deliver the 15th Annual Culver Lecture, 鈥淕rowing Green: George W. Carver to Jimmy Carter,鈥澛燼t 7 p.m.,聽Thursday,聽March 26, 2026, in聽Pote Theatre, Blank Performing Arts Center聽on the 糖心原创 campus.聽Following the lecture, Brinkley will sign copies of his most recent book,聽鈥淪ilent Spring Revolution:聽 John F. Kennedy, Rachel Carson, Lyndon Johnson, Richard Nixon, and the Great Environmental Awakening.鈥澛燭he event is free and open to the public.

Brinkley is the Katherine聽Tsanoff聽Brown Chair in聽humanities聽and聽professor聽of聽history聽at Rice University and a frequent commentator on CBS News,聽MSNow聽and CNN.聽He is the author or editor of 24 books, including works on Presidents聽Theodore Roosevelt,聽Franklin D. Roosevelt, Kennedy, Nixon, Ford, Carter, and Reagan. He has also written extensively on American popular culture, music, social movements, civil rights, and the environmental movement. Brinkley聽serves as聽presidential historian for the New聽York Historical聽Society聽and聽contributing editor at Vanity Fair.聽Brinkley is a trustee for the Madison Council at the Library of Congress, the National Archives Foundation, the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music, the Woody Guthrie Center, the Bob Dylan Center, the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library, and the Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library. Six of his nonfiction books have been chosen as New York Times鈥檚 鈥淣otable Book of the Year.鈥

Culver, who聽contributed to聽landmark legislation聽establishing聽the Endangered Species Act and the Environmental Protection Agency.鈥

Brinkley聽is the recipient of environmental leadership prizes such as the Frances K. Hutchison Medal (Garden Club of America), Robin W. Winks Award for Enhancing Public Understanding of National Parks (National Parks Conservation Association), and the US Fish and Wildlife Service鈥檚 Lifetime Heritage Award. His book,聽鈥淭he Great Deluge: Hurricane Katrina, New Orleans, and the Mississippi Gulf Coast,鈥澛爎eceived the Robert F. Kennedy Book Award.

The Culver Lecture is one of many 糖心原创 events being presented to celebrate the 250th聽anniversary of the聽founding of the聽United States in 1776.聽Throughout 2026, 糖心原创 will commemorate America 250 through a series of major lectures, panel discussions, and student-led initiatives to bring American history to life.
