Social Justice Studies explores the important terrain between ideals of justice and the everyday local and global experiences and expressions of injustice.

At 糖心原创, our Social Justice Studies program鈥攖he only major of its kind at a liberal arts college in Iowa鈥攑repares you with the knowledge, practical experience, and critical thinking skills to address today鈥檚 most pressing social issues. Through interdisciplinary coursework, you鈥檒l explore topics such as equity, human rights, public policy, advocacy, community engagement, and systems of social change while developing the tools to promote meaningful solutions.

Learning goes beyond the classroom. The Social Justice Studies program provides meaningful hands-on experiences that connect classroom concepts with real-world action. Through internships, service-learning, research, and community partnerships, you鈥檒l work closely with faculty mentors while building skills in advocacy, leadership, policy analysis, communication, and community organizing.

ACES

ACES strives to provide advocacy, community, education, and support for disabled students on campus and allies of the disability community. ACES fosters community by hosting study groups, bringing speakers with disabilities on campus, promoting education awareness activities, and having discussion groups.

Active Minds

Active Minds is a student organization dedicated to mental health awareness and support. During meetings, we provide a safe space to have conversations surrounding mental health, we run events to raise awareness, and we advocate for mental health on campus and in the community. Consistent meeting time and date to be determined for this school year as we go through an exec team transition.

Black Student Union

The Black Student Union serves as a unique space for all POC students to celebrate their identity, culture, and achievements while fostering unity and solidarity. By organizing events, discussions, and initiatives, the club fosters a sense of belonging and encourages personal and academic growth while highlighting the richness of our culture.

Latinos Unidos

Latinos Unidos is a multicultural organization dedicated to the education and celebration of Latine culture. We are open to all voices and backgrounds.

PRIDE

The purpose of PRIDE is to promote a sense of unity and diversity encompassing the student and faculty bodies, especially as it pertains to the issue of public acceptance of alternative sexual, romantic, and gender identities. In addition to providing support and community for those persons belonging to the aforementioned identities, PRIDE makes it its mission to reach out to those members of the student and faculty bodies unaccustomed to issues of the aforementioned identities, with which many labor in silence and anxiety.
PRIDE also seeks to provide a safe environment for those of varying sexual, romantic, and gender identities, among the student and faculty bodies on campus.
